The Mindful Detox, Phase One -The Crib

Don't neglect the importance of tending to your nearby surroundings. Even non-living objects can hoard energy. Clean your space, get rid of that which does not bring you joy. Feeling joy in your surroundings will come in handy when you need the support to tear away from this societal construct. I know not every one of us is fortunate enough to have a home that is safe or peaceful or quiet. I urge you to make one place in your surroundings feel happy. You deserve it. Give yourself the love and support. You deserve it. Tonight, I will be focusing on my living room. It needs a little decluttering, dusting and my yoga mat and meditation center should be the only two things on the floor. Tomorrow, I am doing kitchen, laundry, bathroom and bedroom. I will get my candles going, my diffuser will have my favorite essential oils. Smell is important to me in my home. My grandma has a sign in her home that reads, "cleanliness is next to godliness." and I now understand what tha...

The Mindful Detox -Setting of Intentions

"If you know better, do better." ...I am TRYING! Lately, I have ingested a great deal of new substances, both mentally and physically. Though most of the substance is nourishing, I find it tremendously important to take the time to detox and archive the newly received materials, otherwise, all good things received floats around with no perspective. New information needs to be archived correctly. My mindful detox will focus on my body, the vessel and my mind, the creative center. The vessel will be introduced to a fasting period. She told me how important fasting was, she said that normal cells, when starved will go into a state of hibernation to preserve itself, abnormal cells are not capable of doing this. The abnormal cells then struggles to survive i...

Sinking into Meditation

I was looking to write a short story, that was fun and light and revolved around a Caribbean upbringing, which is still to come at some point in the near future. I am also in Yoga Teacher Training and part of the meditation syllabus is to have a daily meditation practice. To aid my story, I decided to meditate to recover memories from a day in my childhood. I sank into a seated posture, I prepped my physical space to begin meditating. I closed my eyes, deep breath in, deep long breath out.  I am scanning my memory bank in a brand new experience, I haven’t tried this before. I am struggling. I am recalling repetitive activities, but a full day is not coming to mind.  I see a few images of myself, as if I am the observer. I see the day some of my hair was burnt because I was sitting on the structure that my grandpa’s ashes were stored in. It was a concrete block with an urn in the center, it was tiled on the top and every afternoon at sunset or before, m...

I am sorry, I can't speak for other planets.  I am picky eater and I know I can't be the only one, and since my blog is meant to help at least one person, let's hope this post does it. About my palette:  I come from the Caribbean, I can stop here, but allow me to elaborate. The country that I was born in is made up of 6 ethnic groups; East Indians, Africans, Portuguese, Chinese, Amerindians (indigenous people), and Europeans. As a result, we have a very diverse cuisine that has blended over the years into the most magical array of dishes imaginable. Long story short, I know taste, bitter, spicy, tart, sweet, you name it darling. Ok, without further ado: Best Vegan Cookie # 1:  Alternative Baking Company's Double Chocolate Decadence Cookie I didn't want to include descriptions as I ha...
